A people shaped by faith, relationship, and hope.

Presbyterians belong to widening circles of theological identity and relationship: Reformed, Protestant, and Christian.

Presbyterian is a way of being Reformed, which is one way of being Protestant, which is itself a way of being Christian.

Presbyterians have a distinctive form of church government, or polity, in which the authority to make decisions is lodged not in individuals but in groups known as councils.

These councils are made up of ministers and elected members of congregations known as ruling elders. The word “Presbyterian” comes from the Greek word for “elder.”

Rooted in the
Reformed tradition.

Our Presbyterian identity connects us to centuries of Christian thought, worship, representative leadership, and service to the wider world.

01

Reformed

Presbyterianism grew from the theology and teachings of Protestant reformers and the wider Reformed tradition.

02

Representative

Church decisions are made through councils composed of ministers and elected ruling elders from congregations.

03

Christ-Centered

Reformed thinking emphasizes God's grace in Jesus Christ and the call to live faithfully in the world.

A Daily Invitation

Take time today to read, reflect, pray, and consider how Scripture speaks to your life, your neighbors, and the wider community.

Faith calls us toward justice.

Presbyterians believe that Jesus Christ made it clear through his teachings that we have an ethical responsibility to engage in issues of social justice.

Our faith is not only something we practice within the walls of a church. It also calls us to look outward, listen to our neighbors, recognize injustice, and work toward a more whole and compassionate community.

“Persevering Toward Wholeness”

Our Social Witness

The Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.) affirms a commitment to social witness and encourages congregations to engage questions of justice, compassion, dignity, and community responsibility.

At Hyde Park Presbyterian Church, faith and community belong together. We seek to live out the call to love our neighbors and participate in the work of healing and wholeness.

Connected to a
wider church.

Hyde Park Presbyterian Church is part of the Presbyterian tradition, a community connected to congregations and leaders throughout the Presbyterian Church (U.S.A.).
